Is Your Computer too Slow? You May Need More RAM

Most people can cope easily with a computer with 8 GB of RAM. with that capacity, everyday uses such as streaming videos, running Microsoft office, and playing games should be a breeze. If your computer has less than 8 GB of ram, upgrading it will be a surefire way to increase performance.

Insufficient RAM bogs down your computer to a snail’s pace when you use several chrome tabs or computer apps at once, as Windows constantly swaps their access between the hard drive and RAM module. Background processes such as system updates and security software add to this load.

Troubleshoot possible RAM issues by comparing how much ram is in usage with your normal workload and its availability. You can do this in the "more details" section of the task manager in Windows 10, in the "memory" section of the "Performance" tab.

Unfortunately, many retailers in South Africa sell computers that are virtually unusable due to insufficient RAM. Whether you recently bought a laptop or computer or want to upgrade RAM is the one you had for a while, you may want to consider replacing the preinstalled RAM and maxing out the capacity of installable RAM first. Some laptops and desktops have spare slots for additional RAM, and some require an outright swop.
