If you have an HHD hard drive, its the head-and-write head, which hovers over the spinning platters during operation, snaps back to a resting position when the power trips. If this happens often, the head arm will misalign over time, causing it to touch and scrape the platter surface. This develops into a head crash where the hard drive is effectively destroyed (thanks again, Eskom!). Don't think you are safe if you have SSD drives. It can also suffer catastrophic damage ranging anywhere from data corruption to total malfunction. Considering the above, it’s a good idea to invest in some anti-load shedding precautions.
